The talent on Letterman's band is pretty impressive. Paul Shaffer annoys me, but they're all top notch musicians.

I feel the same. I have only seen Seth Myers twice because I work third shift and only catch it Friday nights. I could have sworn I saw Fred Armisen on guitar one of the nights I saw it.

Yup! He's the band leader. I don't think that show's gonna make it in the long run.

I thought Seth would be doing alot better since I really enjoyed him on weekend update. He just seems so uncomfortable during his monolouge. It is kind of hard to watch. He needs to take some lessons from Craig Ferguson.

You mention Ferguson yet leave out Alfredo Sauce and the Shy Fellas?

As for Meyers, I could have told you that would fail. Who likes Meyers or Armisen for that matter? You put two of the most punchable faces around in the same show and see what happens. I haven't watched a second of it, but I hate that i have to be subjected to some of it through commercials for it. I hope it disappears.

Oh and you gotta love the roots. Are they the best musicians in the list? Probably not. Are they the coolest? Yes. And I like that they do so many comedy bits. Great guys.

Well I mean, I vote the roots after Alfredo Sauce and the Shy Fellas anyway...

I do not like The Roots at all. I used to like The Max Weinberg 7 and Letterman's band are good too.

The Roots are actually really good musicians! The best is subjective. Letterman has some of the top session cats in NY and the most seasoned. Both are really good bands. When Fallon and Timberlake do their History Of Rap routine, The Roots are on top of that!! Previous Tonight Show bands were monster bands.

I appreciate that The Roots are musically literate and can actually play instruments, but meh.

Hard to top some of the jazz names in the Carson-era Tonight show band - Pete Christlieb, Bucky Pizzarelli, Clark Terry, Shelly Manne, Lew Tabackin, Louis Bellson.

The SNL band that had GE Smith and T-Bone Wolk was pretty badass.

I'm with you on Meyers. I'm neutral on Armisen.

Ridiculous. Shaffer's band and talent are without peer.

    No one even comes close.

+1. Johnny Carson's Tonight Show band, with Doc Severinsen, was just about the best Late Night Show Band ever was. :)

Of the bands on this poll, yes, I agree

...but, for the sake of argument, I'd put the house band from NBC's Night Music show (late 1980s) up against The World's Most Dangerous Band any day:

    David Sanborn
    Hiram Bullock
    Marcus Miller
    Omar Hakim
    Phillipe Saisse
