    Amazing custom short scale (31") Birdsong 5 string bass. This Hy 5 has tons of upgrades. (These start at $2300 with basic woods). This bass has a spanish cedar body (sounds like mahogany, but it is lighter), a macassar ebony top and matching headstock, 2 Kent Armstrong soapbar Pickups. Scott (owner of Birdsong) also made custom made pickup covers and matching knobs for this bass with the ebony and spanish cedar. I believe the bass is 8.5 pounds. I will verify later. He named this bass the "eclipse bass". It is featured on the website. Strung B - G. Sounds good as E-C as well. This would be over $3,000 new.

    What's the string spacing ? The earlier HY5's had narrow spacing.

    Gotta stop looking at this. Swore off 5ers, but a short 5? Hmm....What are you willing to accept as a trade plus cash?

    I am hoping to get as much cash as I can. Any offers will be taken into consideration. I may accept a trade and then post that trade for sale here on TB to get the rest of the cash. I have gotten most of my gear with trades - I know it is hard to come up with all cash.

    Is the B string a different scale length from the others?

    From the hy5 basses site:

    Standard length 4-string sets are used for the main 4 (EADG) strings. Not short or medium scale strings.
    Some brands of B string aren't wound long enough in standard length for the DST (double string through), so a special-order "Super Long" B may be needed.

    Here's what we ship with and set up the instruments for... they are the best for the basses in our opinion.
    Roundwound:
    Curt Mangan nickel roundwounds .045-.105 with a standard .130 B. Note: other brands' standard length Bs may not be long enough.

    Flatwound:
    D'Addario Chromes ECB-82 (EADG) with a CB132SL ("Super Long") .132 B (find & order a few to have on hand)

    I stuck with the Curt Magnan strings. They sound great and they are easy to order online.
