What does the original one look like for comparison? I see a date of 2012-5-24 on the board, is this any indication of how new Boogieman is as a company?

    PM sent!

OK, so the last time I contacted Alembic to do a refurb in 2003 for a whistle in the neck pup I was quoted $1200, which was what I paid for the bass in 1976. Seemed silly to me and I worked around it. I've bought this card, but have come to believe that Alembic repairs these cards for far less than I was quoted 9 years ago. I am going to call Alembic and see what the deal is on Monday and I'll post here. At least I'll get a chance to A/B the two cards.
    Stay tuned.....:bassist:

Sometimes I wish Alembic would offer a passive bass..but that would go against the whole idea of the company.

Not necessarily. Alembic is about state of the art, so why not a SOTA passive bass?

The Oasis Basses were made by former Alembic employees. They featured exquisite woodwork and passive Bartolini pups, etc. and were made in the late 70s.

You know..I take that comment back. It's the clarity in the uppermost highs and lowest lows changing my mind.

Interesting and cool guitars, those Oasis'. I am not sure of the Alembic connection, only due to the very different construction of those guitars but certainly Alembic inspired. When you look at a Doug Irwin guitar, for example, you very much see the Alembic that Doug came from. I wonder if Rick Turner would have any info on Gary and Oasis?

Great more instruments I can't afford man those look good and the Alembic is one of my dream basses but it looks like you need to be able to afford to get it fixed as well.

Here's an interview with Gary Cooper of Oasis Guitars from the mid-80s:

I will let you all know what it will really cost to repair the circuit board after I call Alembic on Monday-$1200 for a total refurb of electronics via email correspondence may have just been an associate trying to upsell me (it wasn't Mika I was corresponding with back then).

OK, got the preamp. It does look pretty clean, it has different connectors for the 3 connection points (JV1, JV2 and JV3) that are on the old card. I will try to find some adapters tomorrow and A/B the two cards. It's possible that my issue is not even with the card itself but with the capacitors on the treble pickup Q switch, it's whistling in the bottom (highest resonance) position. I have filled out a customer service query for Alembic and I'll see what they do. I'll will let you all know what the new card sounds like and if it resolves the issue and what Alembic says.

Do consult the Alembic web site. There was just a discussion about these cards recently. There was one for sale on e-bay last month.

And do call and ask Mica what's up with the electronics. It is most likley a simple fix. She can get you pointed in the right direction.

Interesting, this preamp card is supposed to be a direct drop-in replacement yet the connectors are different!

I always thought that was a feature, not a bug, of analog filters! :)

Not this, it sounds like a dog whistle! I will have a free moment to call this afternoon. To be fair, this circuit is from 1976 (Rick Turner worked on this one) and it's likely Alembic has changed the connectors as well.
