Here's the story! I Asked Jamereo Artis about that cool Gold Fender Custom Shop P-Bass He rocked during the Super Bowl halftime show, and he was cool enough to get back to me with the details to share with you all!

    Here is the Message Thread:

Jamereo. Could you offer any details in regards to the P-Bass you rocked at the Super Bowl Show? There are literally hundreds of bass players on talkbass.com asking about it! This would be Greatly appreciated by this community of bass players. Any details would be appreciated! Great job and thank you!

    Steve,

Custom shop Fender that they made especially for me. The idea came from the Adam Clayton signature P Bass, I just asked for a different cut neck in rosewood that was more similar to a 70's Jazz Bass neck that's worn in with neck binding, custom pickups similar to Roger Sadowsky's pickups but with the Fender custom shops twist. Hipshot tuner, push/pull mute, tone knob is a multi click positioned knob for multiple tones. I'm more of a finger player, so I like to be able to switch from a jamerson tone to bernard edwards sound without having too much trouble.

    Peace,
    J

Sounds like it would be a great seller if Fender offered it to the rest of us thanks for sharing.

I love the specs on that bass....Especially the neck profile and the push/pull mutes for that thump old school Willie Weeks/Jamerson tone. The pickups sound intriguing and i've never used a tone knob like that but i'm intrigued because it would be easy to dial in tones on the fly.

Has anyone tried the a tone knob selector switch like this? Can anyone shed light on how Sadowsky P Bass pups are voiced?

I haven't had the chance to play one yet, but Rickey Minors main bass for the last couple of years on Leno was a Sadowsky P 5.

Only by others using one, there are some youtubes out there. Pretty cool, just not sure how much I would use one.

That is a great video...I would really like to drop one of those in my 84' P Bass after hearing those tonal options. Thank you for posting!

I was under the impression that ALL Super Bowl musicians have to fake it...with only vocals being live (IF you're lucky).

Jamareo seems like a real nice guy to me. Great player.

Thanks for reaching out to him. I considered doing the same regarding the strings he uses on his Custom Shop Pino via Twitter.

That Tonestyler is interesting. I thought that device was more like a toggle between multiple capacitor values but it is pretty unique. Want one!

Such a killer bass player - and that is one awesome instrument too! Anyone know what other gear he's using currently? Think I read Mesa somewhere before, but not sure if that's still the case. Awesome tone regardless.
