  1. *SOLD* Thanks all...

12AU7 tube in lieu of the oft-favored 12AX7, the gain is less aggressive but notably smoother. Amp is in great shape, face looks good, some rack rash on top and bottom but minimal at the ears.

Read about 'em- do a search here on TB. It's old technology, but so is Thor's Hammer... The lows, that have gotten so much attention around here, are handle-able and frankly a matter of taste. It's my opinion at this point, after years of playing time, that the dark, lush bed at the bottom of this sound that is attainable is due to those lows that is the subject of controversy. Some prefer it, you are in love or you ain't. And there are simple ways to get around it.

The amp is simply an excellent piece of engineering- the parametric eq and robust power section are a combo to reckon.

This one goes for $200 plus shipping. An extra $20 gets you a 3-space soft gig rack and a set of foam spacers to hold it in place. Pix available to interested parties.

Ships from 02917, in a Samsonite Gorilla-proof shipping jig.

    Wow
An original unit without the transparency control.
This is a steal as these amps are extremely well made and VERY powerful.
It's a shame they have not hold their value as compared to a low power, single tone Acosutic.
Bump for a great amp that can also double as a PA amp.

  3. Agreed it takes the Acoustic thing up a few notches. I don't get that either... thanks for the good word Jim.

Addendum: I didn't mean to drive down the price of this venerable amplifier- it's worth a good deal more than $200, I know this. I need to move stuff though, and I've been done a few good turns lately. I'm just moving the good deal forward in this way. I hope it goes to a good home.

    Here's the soft case:

Deal of the month bump. Echoing the above sentiments, killer amps. Trades?

  6. Cash gets first consideration... I have been mulling over another trade offer though.

I might think about a solid 4-string player, something unusual maybe...
    A non-Fendery fretless...
    An Ampeg SVP Pro preamp...

Mine was stolen about 16 years ago and I never recovered it... I'm thinking about this one for nostalgic reasons (and I need an inexpensive backup).

  10. The SM-400 is sold... thanks guys, for the good buzz and inquiries!

(There's another, a 400S, still posted around here somewhere...)
