I've been looking out for an ADA MB-1, but they're pretty hard to find. Anyone used a Rocktron Blue Thunder or similar digital preamp?

I want something like that to mess around with. Suggestions? Also, what are some good new SS power amps?

Ebay. look through the completed auction listings. There's a guy there been trying to sell one for a while now. I'll bet if you message him you can work something out.

Cool, I looked at the completed auctions but must've missed that one. Is he asking way to much for it? It looks like the go for about $250. I buy and sell gear a lot so I don't wanna lose my shirt if I decide to sell down the road.

If you're talking about the guy that has been listing his for $500, I already upset him through CL by offering $275! I saw he just relisted on eBay for $530.

Looks to me like you've already lost your shirt...and the front part of your hair along with it. :D

ADA-M1 is an analog pre-amp with digital/Midi control.

If you want true digital it is cheap these days.
Apple iPhone/iPad/iPod IOS stuff is seriously everywhere.
An iPod an interface, and one of the many modeler and you've got a seriously portable digital pre. Carry it everywhere and have it handy for inspired moments.

It's only worth what it sells for.
Naive or newbie sellers get all butt-hurt if somebody offers less than the princely sum the seller thinks he so richly deserves.

    A suitable quote

If you have patience and diligence, you can find what you want without losing your shirt.
My starting rule of thumb is, pay no more than 66% of new-discount price for main stream items.
This does not apply to collector's items, or out-of-production gear.

eBay really has their way with sellers.
I got banged an Insertion Fee for the ad, then a commission when the item sold.
My mopar-trading buddy says eBay is now asking a percentage of your shipping fees as well.
IMO, eBay is the place of last resort, and certainly not the best for sellers.

I used a Rocktron Blue Thunder for a couple of years. That thing was great IMO. It was ahead of it's time. I am a dummy for selling it but You could use a Zoom B3 too.

The ipod stuff is cool, but I'm old school, I want rack gear!

Anyone know anything about the ART Nightbass preamp?

One of the worst sounding pieces of bass gear I've ever had the displeasure of using. 200 presets of suck. Save your money and keep looking for an ADA.

Behringer V-amp Pro. The "Pro" version is the rackmount version. This is a newer piece of gear and still in production, less than $200 new. There's a thread about them here on TB, check it out.

This thread prodded me into remembering I have an old MB-1 ( not for sale, sorry) so I dug it out and plugged it in. When I retired this thing I thought it was terrible but now both the tube and solid state preamps sound pretty good to me. Perhaps they're unremarkable but certainly not offensive in any way.

Thanks for reminding me about this thing, I'm going to reacquaint myself!

Why would you want an ADA preamp?
