DOES ANYONE HERE USE ROUNDWOUNDS????

Discussion in 'Strings [BG]' started by unclebass, Aug 23, 2013.

  1. If you go by reading the threads that are currently active, you would think that 95% of all bass players use flats. They must last forever, if you go by what is on the wall at the local music stores.

  2. Surely there must be at least 3 other roundwound users in here...

Flats are enjoying a resurgence in popularity, and they do last forever.

BTW, I use flats on my P, RotoSound 66 Stainless rounds on my PJ and J.

I've been a roundwound user for years- tried a set of flats and I really didn't care for them for whatever reason. They just seemed too mellow for me. Ended up immediately going back to roundwound strings!

  7. From about 1968 to 1972 I used Flat’s. 1972-2006 it wasTape Wounds. Experimented with Flats again in 2007.

My GF bought a bass for me that came with Elixer Round Wounds on it. My original thought was to have Tape’s tossed on before it left the store. TB’ers talked me out of it, and the feel was pretty good for Rounds, now I am not so sure. The reason I am reluctant to change is I love the way the bass sounds now. Occasionally I lost note definition with Tapes.

I Love the sound of old broken in Round wounds. Not too bright but yet good punch and sustain :bassist:

Roto 66s on one P, switch between rounds and flats on the other. Flats on the Stingray, rounds on the Ric.

I have always used round wounds. I tried flats a few weeks ago and didn't like them.

I just recently put rounds on my p that had flats for years.

  16. I tried flats once, and while liked certain things about them, they only lasted one gig for me. A broken in set of nickel round wounds works best for me.
