In an attempt to draw a younger audience DWTS's has fired its longtime 28 member big band and replaced it with a small electronica and pre recorded music group.

One has to wonder if its a cost savings measure or did they hire a bunch of 17 year olds as consultants to a show about ballroom dancing. My wife is a big fan and she doesnt like the sound of this at all, could be a turn off for a good portion of there audience.

Its getting tuff to be a musician these days

Seems like it might be time to try my hand at synthpop. I've been meaning to for a while anyway.

The only reason I watch The Voice is to see the house band. They better not replace them, too...

I just wish The House Band was more upfront like they were on Rockstar instead of backing the chorus line dancers

Is Dancing With The Stars the US version of Strictly Come Dancing in the UK?

I love that show, one of the reasons being the absolutely killer house band.

And yes, I seem to remember RockStar Supernova having a great house band too.

It always disappoints me when people dismiss shows like this as 'fake/reality TV' or whatever, when actually they are missing out on seeing some seriously good chops at work.

    Oh well.

What's fake about a live band?

Any show - regardless of context - that has a live house band always draws me in.

Whether it's big band stuff from the dancing shows or something like 'Four Poofs And A Piano' (google them) from the Jonathan Ross show in the UK, I don't see how anyone who is even half serious as a musician can be so dismissive of the chops these guys have, "just because it's reality/fake tv and I hate reality/fake tv".Hmmm.

    Hi.

    +1.

I wonder when the paying audience gets fed up with all this "reality" TV.

I for one take even a bad fiction before anything "reality".

Can't speak for the guy, but I assume he means the concept, not the band.
In fact, the band may be the only one real deal on these shows.

    Regards
    Sam

In this specific case I wonder how much do real ballroom dance competitions rely on new arrangements of current hits. When PBS used to show it they didn't use Katy Perry songs

Really though , how difficult is it to get a large horn band fired, just mention the cost, catering , the accommodations ....they're fired the
moment they're hired and doomed to be replaced by the canned
    nitrate version

One positive thing about those shows with the live bands is that they always give props to the bands on each show and it is well deserved.

I agree that the band on The Voice is exceptional.

DWTS has always been a horrible show. I despise it. The sooner it goes off the air, the better.
