Hey all. I recently purchased a fender precision 60th anniversary (2011) for a steal of a deal at a somewhat local guitar center. It was the burst version (limited to about 125 special run). In the store I thought the transition from black to yellow (?) was sorta reddish, but paid it no mind. I got it home and realized the black of the burst is actually a deep purple (no band reference intended...)

I will post pix a little later from my home computer but was curious if anyone else has seen this. It's got the "thin skin" nitro finish. It is too consistent to be faded from the sun - it's beautifully even and on the front and back. I contacted Fender who confirmed the serial number is in fact a a GC special run burst 60th anniversary. He also confirmed that none of these basses were done in purple or any variation thereof. (I knew that as there was only the blonde version and the special burst for guitar centers).

Has anyone else seen this on this bass or any other fenders? Is this a normal phenomenon or a rare anomaly off the line?

I know pix will help and I'll have them up ASAP.

Happy, merry! And thanks for any comments this fine group of TBers may have.

It sounds great, whether it was intentional or official or not.

I've seen this before when the black isn't totally opaque and let's the red show through a little, nice looking actually.

Sounds cool to me...my '03 AVRI Jazz is getting a slight green tint on the black parts of the three tone burst.

Just to add additional facts to the record here, I took the pickguard off tonight to have a looksee and, yes, the purple is pure. It is not a sun / exposure fade.
