Im about to order another new P bass from the Fender CS. Im wondering if the option "sort for light weight" is really worth the extra $...

Will there really be a difference? What weight should I expect from a P with alder body?

Also, do anyone has experience with hand wound pickups? Once again, what should I expect?

Yeah, having a pickup wound by Abby would be verrry cool but I dont think you can specify someone in particular...

From what I've heard alder tends to be a bit more consistent in weight than say ash that can vary considerably in weight. I would do it for ash but would ask how consistent the alder is before spending extra money.

Select alder body means from 1/4 to 1/3 lighter than ordinary alder body;)

    Cheers,

I've only purchased pre-made CS basses so I can't say how much goes into it, but my guess is if you're ordering it they'll try and give you what you want. The weight of my CS basses seems to be the same range as my regular Fender basses, e.g., 8.5 to 9.5 lbs.

So for those interested, I ordered another CS P!

Here's some of the specs I choose:

Base model Time Machine 1960 Precision Bass, NOS, ALDER (base model)
    SORT FOR LIGHTWOOD
    Color : Fire Mist Gold
    Quartersawn 1960 P Bass Oval C
    SORT FOR DARK ROSEWOOD
    HANDWOUND SPLIT P Bass pickup

Hope this one is gonna kills!!!

I could not choose who would build the pickup, I would have like Abbygail... ;)

Also, I pick'ed a 3 ply WHITE pickguard. Do you think a Mint Green would have looked better over the Firemist Gold?

I think the white will look slightly better than mint, but either would work, IMO.

I can't wait to see pics of your bass when you get it. It's quite rare anymore I gas for anything without a B string, but I am going to drool when I see yours. Love Firemist Gold!

    Hi David,

You can only have Abby handwound pick-ups if you go through a masterbuilder or limited edition. I have a J Bass from John Cruz and an Adam Clayton P Bass. Both have Abby's pick-up and god, those are fantastic. BTW, a nice option for a Jazz is the binding around the neck.

This is weird, considering that I have a set of Abigail Ybarra CS '69 Strat pickups with her initials and date. They weren't even that expensive...

Seems silly that they would be so inexpensive for a set of 3 guitar pickups but an expensive option on the bass side...

This bass is going to bring the THUNDER. :bassist: White was definitely the right pickguard choice IMO. Excellent color choices in general, stoked to see pics :hyper:

I ordered a 1961 Jazz bass last year with Abby pickups and they sound amazing. You won't regret it.

Thanks for your opinion, that's what I think too, white will look better! Firemist Gold is my favorite gold tint @ Fender. I'll, of course, post pics as soon as I receive her.........

    ........ in about 6 months!

Thanks for the info! I would not go Masterbuild as I've had a few and I think the Team built basses are on par in term of quality, cheaper, and you receive them faster (if I can say faster). It would have been cool to have THE legend Abby to wound my pickup! :hyper:

Thanks for the note man!! :) I really can't wait!! :hyper:

I'm sure that even if it's not wound by Abby, it would sound great!!

Thanks all for your replies! :)

    Hi Troph,

Fender handwound pick-up with initials ''A. Y.'' and the date are made by her team under her supervision. If it's handwound by her personally it's written ''Abby'' and the date.
