I've got an older Mac laptop that still works fine. I'd like to use it to provide sounds for my MAudio USB keyboard controller. Can anyone suggest a free and simple software synth? UVI has a few, but they need to run via their entire workstation program and that will choke my old computer. All I need is some basic sounds. Thanks, Jon

How old is your laptop? Did it come with GarageBand?

I had a crappy laptop a while back that I used to use as a keyboard synth host. I can't say officially, but I found a giant pack of .vsts a few years back. Some work. Some don't. Some have a small footprint. Some don't.

    Shop the market/scour the bay.

It's an old Powerbook, with OSX, no garage band.
