Can anyone recommend a good 5 string fretless on a budget under $1000?
Plenty of used Carvin 5ers can be found for under a grand. Great American made basses that happen to have awful resale value.

You can get a Schecter studio 5 fretless for (usually) under $700.
Ibanez GWB35BKF, used Sandberg California basses, Yamaha TRB 1005F (if you can find one), Warwick Rockbass Corvette Classic, Steinberger Synapse XS-15FPA.
I just spec'd out a Carvin B50F for $888 plus shipping. Exellent instrument.
