After talking with a fellow database programmer last year, he mentioned he had an old 70's Ric 4001 that he hadn't touched in decades.

He offered for me to borrow it for a year or more as long as I promised to gig with it and post pictures of it being used. He felt bad such a great old bass was just sitting in his basement.

Plays great. Interesting neck profile. A bit C shaped up by the nut to 12th fret. And a flattened D profile further up the neck. Is that common? Not bad, just different than any if my basses. And it is DUSTY!

    Now I'd I could only find a friend with a Washburn B-20-8 I could borrow too. :)

LOL Yeah. Sounds like a great idea. I'll do that. I've known him for about 12-13 years or so. Great guy. I'll be playing it tomorrow at an afternoon gig.

Remember the neck adjusts differently to normal basses.
    Right that,s that bit.
Neck sounds like a Rick, once you get in the way of it you might just like it.

A gift card to a nice local restaurant sounds about right.

It needs some work, one broken strap button and noisy electronics. But the neck seems in great shape.

Good lord. No wonder he felt bad.

Is that the Ruby Red finish? It's beautiful.

The black pickguard is growing on me. It sure looks like a rock and roll machine that way.
