    It's a pedal version of the BBE 428i. They call it a sonic maximizer. It allows you to tweak the bass and treble frequencies to cut through the mix a bit better. It's not a boost though. I guess the simplest description would be an eq, but someone smarter than I probably knows the nitty-gritty.
