I had this bass built back in 2003 I believe. Could have been a bit earlier. I bought the 4004 new and ordered two new Darkstars professionally installed. The bass is in excellent condition and sounds simply amazing. I traded the bass some years ago here on Talkbass then traded back for it not long ago. The "piano black" finish has held up very well. There is no "buckle rash". The back of the neck is literally perfect. There are a very, very small ding are two on the body but nothing that will photograph. The bass still looks new. Weight is under 9lbs. Controls are standard 4004....selector switch, volume, tone. It comes in the original Ric silver case with blue interior. The bass is strung with TI Flats. Setup is low with no buzz and strobe intonated.
    I would be interested in trading for a V63, C64 or possibly a 4001or even a 4003.
The bass has such a mirror black finish it's very hard to photograph, but if you need more pics, email mccartynorris@hotmail.com and I'll do my best.
Selling price is $1800 obo plus actual FedEx shipping. I will ship internationally. ImageUploadedByTalkBass1388962064.262791.jpg ImageUploadedByTalkBass1388962092.603312.jpg ImageUploadedByTalkBass1388962120.029465.jpg

Dang, would I love to get that bass back! One of my all time favorites. I made a run at it a couple of times from whoever had it before you Norris but he wouldn't sell.

I have an 89 4003s I could offer in trade but its not exactly pristine.
If you want to talk off board pm me.

Wow, this bass really gets around! I kinda miss it. Good to see that it's making it's way back to another previous owner.
