Latest Funk fetish for me - this whole record is great. Some my my favorite work from Marcus as well.

A couple of Jazz Funk grooves. The first is kind of mellow and the second is sweaty....

The Crusaders (From Free As The Wind)

    Sweet 'N' Sour

    Feel It

    Bassist: Robert 'Pops' Popswell

The tracks above are only 128K. I didn't have as much storage space as I do now when I ripped that disc. I will have to redo at some point. And, here some more from Maxayn showing some of that Sly vibe that Billy Low mentioned....

Maxayn (From Bail Out For Fun!)

    Moon Funk

    Fun

Trying For Days (This is a remake of the original from their first release. Personally, I like the original better but that's just me...)

Bassist: Moon Funk and Trying For Days sound like keyboard bass to me. I am gonna guess that the bassist on Fun is Billy Rich.

After Howard, Jeffrey and Jody left the group Shalamar got funky! Well, a little bit at least. :D Who remembers these and how many of you are McDonald's men? ;)

    Shalamar

Games (They bit off a lot of Cameo on this one...)

Circumstantial Evidence (They copped the Minneapolis vibe here...)

    Circumstantial Evidence (Extended Version)

    Keyboard bass on these.....

Here's one from the 80's that has more of a 70's feel in my opinion....

    Micowave

    Instant Replay

Bassist: Not sure on this one. Bootsy produced it but I think this person uses a lot more thumb than the Star Child........

EDIT: After listening to this track some more, I now feel that it was Bootsy that played the bass line.....

Might not be officially 'funk' but the bass line MAKES this song

'Crazay' by Jesse Johnson with Sly Stone

    Dig those outfits :bassist:

EDIT: Bassist is listed as Jerry Hubbard

    It's a Lakeside party!

    Lakeside

If You Like Our Music (Get On Up And Move) - From Rough Riders....

    Raid (From Untouchables....)

    Bassist: Marvin Craig

Raid used to actually make the crowd raid the dance floor! I'm going to play on the Wii with my daughter now.... :D

Oh, it's Funk! I had no idea Sly was in action during the 80's! I totally missed that one! What a waste of talent though!

Bassist: Unknown to me. This LP came in a 12" sleeve with no band info. As far as I know it was one and done for them....

    Magnum

    Evolution

    Bassist: Kevin Thornton?

Ok, that's it for a while on my part! I've dug up a few that maybe some of you were not familiar with. Enjoy! :bassist:

That would be As-1. I don't know anyone in that band but there is another band like them called Forte. Dan Quackenbush is the bassist and is also very good.
