Some pics of a 2007 Green Shparkle I just picked up. Seller modded the controls to V/V/T and relocated the jack to the side. Well done and I like the set-up. I think it is a #6 neck. It is thicker front to back than any #8 I've had.
Sounds and plays terrific. I like the new G&L necks too. I have zero confidence in the older G&L necks, from experience, and YMMV, IMHO and all that. It has a glued on fretboard as opposed to the earlier one piece necks. Satin finish on this one.
Like I stated I like this bass. Anybody think of an alternative color pickguard that won't induce nausea?:p

Maybe a gold anodized pickguard would look good. I have one on my strat that looks nice. I don't know where you could get one for an SB-2 though. Maybe some of the other G&L afficionados may know.

Unless things have changed, no one makes a gold ano for the SB. I searched everywhere a couple years ago.

I found one custom maker who quoted me $250 to build one from scratch. (I forget the name)

Needless to say, I had to pass. (sigh)

How about a nice cream one from Chandler?

That white one does'nt look quite right with that finish, for some reason.

The hardware is chrome but the pic was taken in poor lighting and picked up the gold from the carpet.

I think a creme or mint pickguard would work well enough.

Yeah, pearloid looks OK, but strictly from a designer POV do you really want competing patterns adorning this bass? :meh:

    Better pics up top.

That was just on ebay right? That is absolutely the nicest SB-2 I've seen. I vote for white pearloid as well.

Yes, off ebay, and at a great price. By any standard the bass is *new* so I am thrilled. I worried about the color being garish but it looks great.

    OK, two votes for pearloid.

I saw this one on Ebay too and you got a terrific price on it. I want one of these "slutty" sparkle SB-2s big time.

    Perloid pickguard vote too.

  14. I love that bass. I'd do pearloid as well.

  16. Congrats on winning that. My wireless connection was a little slow and I was unable to get my last bid in on time. Had I won it I'd be going with the white pearloid.

I would go with black or cream/mint. Nice green!

    Cream would be good....
Yep something in between the contrast of the maple and the green colors.
But that just me...Just can't stand plain white guards period unless its white on white

:eyebrow: Huh! you mean there was some small drama of slow connectivity in the background of my good fortune?:eyebrow:

I'm still leaning toward mint. Somebody send me a pearloid to see if I like it.:D

  20. Changed my mind, I'd go w/mint as well. Pearl seems too busy given the paint job.

buy a gold blank from warmoth and have someone shape the PG from your existing one. It isn't that tough a job ...

If not, then cream unless you can find exactly the right mint. The greens are going to be tough to match I think.

Or - go clear and do a foil job around the routes for masking.

Or - use clear and spray a few thin coats of gold, then a coat of black on the reverse side ...

Actually the white isn't so awful ...
