I've heard this claim, and considering how it might sound more like a Rick's treble pickup (it being the Jazz bass's unshorted neck pickup), this could be the source of the confusion on Moving Pictures over where he used the Rick and where he used the Jazz. It definitely sounds like a Jazz neck pickup at times on the isolated tracks, but I've also heard he favored his bridge pickup at times which also sounds right for YYZ and maybe Vital Signs. YYZ is a bit too processed to tell, though. Anyways, is there any reputable proof that Geddy had a shorted bridge pickup? And it also sounds like it's been fixed since, because his current tone is definitely two Jazz bass pickups dimed, nothing can be shorted there in my ears.
