I love KISS, but that would've severely altered a huge part of the 80's.

Interesting. I never knew that. I Love VH's first four albums up until that point, and it wasn't long after that that KISS became a caricature of themselves. would love to hear those 3 recordings.
  4. I would like to hear the story from a point of view that was not Gene Simmons.

A sober Eddie Van Halen stated that he didn't remember anything of the sort, in 1995.

This is the truth. Why in the heck would Ed quit his own multi platnium selling namesake band to join KISS?? No disrespect to KISS, but at the time, VH was huge while KISS was kinda washed up.
  9. That's how I remembered the early '80s. At the time KISS was done, happy fun memories of junior high, but mostly just thought of as a silly stage act from the '70s. I can see Ed persuing other singers or other projects, maybe disbanding and starting new, but not joining KISS. Not in '82.

Yeah but was he when that thing allegedly happened? It could be that Simmon remembers it but he doesnt.

If that happened, at least Simmons did say it's cause he would be too big for kiss and cast a shadow on everyone else. Clashing egos is the only reason why you wouldnt let that happen (and then EVH would have been back to square one, instead of clashing with Roth it would have been simmons).

I still think Simmons has less reasons to lie about this than EVH has. It could make him look bad to the VH guys. Like really? you were gonna drop us?

Yes, but would KISS have been forced into taking on Alex as well? That would have meant sacking Eric Carr, a very solid drummer.

In a recent Guitar World interview, Stanley says he never heard that.

Saw Gene last night on CSI Las Vegas. He acted as himself. Pretty cool. Although his hair looked like straw.

Gene and Paul with Eddie and Alex in 1982? I'd buy that record.

I saw this article a while ago. Eddie has a different version of the conversation, basically saying that he was asked to join KISS. Personally, I'm at the point where I don't believe a word that Gene or Eddie say about any topic.
  17. Good point. Neither are particularly credible witnesses.
  18. I would love to see a fictionalized dramatization of the Van Halen Bros. joining KISS. Recording, touring, arguing with Gene. Gene convincing Eddie and Alex to give him ownership of their "stage characters". Imagine what kind of KISS Karacters Eddie and Alex would have dressed as. Perhaps an animated short would work best. Gene pretty much is a cartoon.

Or instead of a cartoon, an episode a la Funny Or Die/Comedy Central's Drunk History with actors portraying the parties involved with Gene telling his version of the story.

I wonder how would EVH look with KISS make-up on?

If that picture above is real then EVH don't need no makeup.
