i have to do a performance of an australian piece of music for my music assessment, but i can't manage to find any songs with bass parts that are interesting or hard enough to get me a decent mark.

    help me!

Greg Macainsh (sp?) from Skyhooks. Most of their songs were heavily dependent on the melodic bassline. Most are fairly easy but are a vital part of the song.

I'd start looking at John Butler Trio. Probably of the prominent aussie artists they're a group that has a great bass player. Whether its assessment piece good i dont know. Let us know what you decide!

Craig Newman. Check his website for who he's played with. He is one bad cat.

Not necessarily super hard, but very interesting grooving basslines that are vital

Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds - Do You Love Me?
Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds - Red Right Hand
Nick cave and The Bad Seeds - Dig, Lazarus, Dig!
    Pete Murray - Tonic
    The Vines - Factory
    The Vines - Outtathaway!
    John Butler Trio - Zebra
John Butler Trio - Treat Yo Mamma
John Butler Trio - There'll Come A Time (if you nailed the quick semi-quavers cleanly you'd probablly get a good mark for chops too)

Try a track off Tommy Emmanuel's Determination CD. Rob Little on bass for most of the tracks I think.

try Evripedes Evripedou! Traditionally a flamenco guitarist. Plays 6 string basses and also has a 7 string custom made Belman.

LRB even; Roger McLaughlin on bass.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Ric Fierabracci might be Aussie?

    Yuri Pavlinov, The Bamboos.
One of my favorite funk bass lines is off My Baby's Cheating if you can get a copy of Rawville.

Maybe listen to Step It Up or The Bamboos Theme off their site to give you an idea.

Or there's always Tal Wilkenfeld... That should be hard enough ;)

Craig Bloxom from Spy V. Spy. The Spies were a trio that played some really kickin' Rock n Roll back in the '80's & early 90's. They gained quite a rep as a great club band that would totally rock the joint every night.

Albums: "A.O Mod. TV Ver." & "Harry's Reasons" are 2 of my all-time favorite albums. Great tracks, with killer driving bass throughout.
Songs: If you're looking for something interesting and driving, listen to "A.O. Mod" off the Xenophobia (Why?) album.

Truly underrated everywhere except Australia. I still listen to them almost daily.

Dane Alderson from Perth, plays with Void and James Morrison. He's awesome.

Didn't he play with James Morrison? I recall seeing a name like that...

i'd definately reccommend some of the living end's earlier stuff... theres some great lines there... umm also the bassist from Hunters and Collectors... check out their stuff such as When the river runs dry... umm the DiVINyls also have some great lines...also..what type of exam is it? uni or school? ... why not check out some of the great australian jazz quartets? analyse a walking line... ??? play the head, followed by a walking line, solo then back to the head??? With conservatoriums such as WAAPA all around the counrty there are plenty of virtuoso players on our rich jazz scene.. hit it up!
