Certainly would have been easier for them to just say what it does include, which is apparently a very short list.

Yup...get used to it...the list gets longer and longer every year lol

FWIW though, you can bring in anything re-sellable to a guitar center store and sell it for store credit and get 15% off ANY new gear you want to purchase. If you brought in a $20 Boss DS1, a pedalboard, or an old rackmount case you can get 15% your entire order. Downside is doing it in person, plus don't let them know you want the 15% off up front, just act like you want to sell the item cash and then "settle" on store credit with the discount.

Almost + 3, but it depends on who ya get on the phone, and I doubt you'll get any discount on an ipad. I went through a pretty big ordeal with them when 1 salesperson told me he couldn't give me 15% off, but could give me store credit. I wanted some time to decide what else I wanted and was told there would be no problem if I called back in a little while. Said they do it all the time. Well... I hung up, called back, and it didn't happen. Had I ordered when I had the guy on the phone it would have happened. I talked to several people, supervisors, etc. and they refused to do it. That was the only time I ever got really pissed at musiciansfriend.

Not anymore. My local GC said they stopped doing trade-in discounts in Feb.

I started a thread on this last year. I also called GC. Their explanation is that the manufacturers listed have chosen not to participate in discount offers. By the way, GC will not give the discount just for calling and asking. I have tried several times and they refused every time stating that the disclaimer clearly mentions which manufacturers are excluded. The best they will do is offer a discount on something else.

Keep trying, different employees have different policies. I once bought one of those new honey burst American P basses for a steal. It was new marked down from 899 to 699, then I whipped out a coupon for 100$ off anything 699$ or more, and said: "can I use this?". The guy was like: "uhh sure?" Bam 599$ + tax and some complications ringing me up had it for 612$ out the door.

We would do it at my location for most of those. Not all of them, but I'd say 99% of the time, we just force the coupon through. Some companies ARE completely excluded, though, but those are few and far between.

If you want to ask about a specific brand and their exclusion policies before you go into the store, just message me.
