    Hi,

I was looking at this bridge, and it seems like a nice quality, inexpensive replacement for the typical Fender bent plate bridge. The only thing keeping me from getting it is a feeling that it might not drop directly in. Could anyone tell me if installing this bridge would require modifying my bass, or if it's a direct replacement?

    Thanks a ton!

EDIT: Forgot the link! Here it is: http://store.guitarfetish.com/Oversized-Top-Mount-Bass-Bridge-SUSTAIN-Gold_p_580.html

  2. 1) It mounts with four screws, rather than five. You'll have to drill new holes.

    2) It has no intonation adjustment screws. This can make setting the intonation a major PITA.

I have used that type of bridge before. They are OK. You can set the intonation on that bridge. There are other bridges I prefer more.

Tip --- never change a bridge if you are not willing to drill new holes.

    huh!

i have no idea who makes that, but it looks pretty good!

weird how it's totally hard to find a direct-replacement 5-screw fender bridge with adjustable spacing! you have the vintage threaded-rod version, the leo quan (if you can get them), that odd-looking schaller 2000, and now this.

see, that gotoh is OK, but its spacing is too narrow, it doesn't line the strings up between the jazz pickup magnets.

(not night and day, but i do hear a difference.)

Intonation setting with an ABM bridge is NBD. There is a significant amount of string spacing adjustment.

Like the man said, if you're not willing to drill...
