    Hello guys
    Sorry for my english
Am french ( Montréal, Canada )

Just got a hartke LH500 3 months ago
running in a hartke hydrive 12"
    For the first 2 months
when i get the power on it takes 20 to 30 sec. befor getting any sound
i get a good click sound when it does come on
thats normal time for the lamp to heat up. right ?

But the last few weeks when i turn the power on same thing 20 sec. to

30 sec. befor i get any sound

But after 10 sec. of sound it cuts off whit the same click sound
and then comes back on 1 to 2 min. later
and then am good for the night when it comes back on.

    the power button always on/red

    Any Ideas ??????????????

    thanks
    Marc

None of that sounds normal. I would either take it back for another, or contact Hartke customer support.

I might try replacing the tube first, but definitely call or email Hartke CS.

This sounds like a problem with the power supply...

Yep, the original wait time of 20 to 30 seconds sounds normal. (I have the LH1000) The cutting out after that and coming back in is definitely not. You can always give Larry Hartke a call or email and he'll help you get it taken care of.

My lh500 takes about 20 seconds to warm up. But the other part could be alot of things. Id swap out the tube just to see if that makes a difference. After that id contact hartke if the tube didnt fix it.

    This is funny.
I had the same question a few years ago about the amp taking so long to turn on and everybody was telling me that it was normal because the tube needs to heat up before, witch to me was totaly wrong because I had amps with a tube pre amp before and they all turn on right away. I have now a Carvin BX 500 with a tube pre amp and it turns on instantly.
Larry Hartke had responded to my post saying : give me a call and I'll help you, but reality was that I'm also from Montreal and didn't want the additional expense of calling him. So I sent him a PM with the same question but he never bothered to respond. I don't under stand why he never commented the issue on the board nor that there is no mention of this in the service manual.
Anyway, I hated the amp so I just got rid of it.

    am no tech
but am shure all tube need a few sec. to warm up to get all its potential
if ist starts right off the bat.
then you should see the sound quality get better as it heats up !!!
    i gess
    am i right guys ??

This is the bigger concern: "30 sec. befor i get any sound

But after 10 sec. of sound it cuts off whit the same click sound
and then comes back on 1 to 2 min. later
and then am good for the night when it comes back on."

I've never tried tube rolling in a Hartke head, but the differences in tubes are so subtle that I don't know if there will be a night and day difference. But I'm using JJ's in my Ampegs and liking them quite well so far. The Tung Sols and JJ Gold Pins are rather highly regarded by some on here. I'd probably not bother with NOS tubes, though, as today's gear is designed around new tubes, and when I've tried using NOS tubes in new gear, it's messed with the magic.

There are a lot of brands out there for 12AX7/ECC83/ECC803. JJ's are common preference along with Tung-Sol reissue and Sino. I would not go for an expensive tube in that application.
