There will be people telling me go with whatever I want, but I've always done that. I wanna try something different.

I have a Christmas concert tomorrow. I'd like to bring both my basses but we're the opening set and there are a lot of acts for this concert; we only get 15-20 minutes of stage time so I figured bringing both is kinda pointless.

So which one do YOU think I should bring?

Bring the P bass. It makes less noise.

Not entirely true, if you use both pups full on. It really depends on what you are playing.

The generic answer, and the bass that works with anything and everything is, of course, the Precision.

Oh the flaws in each one I should mention

MIA: scratchy pots...definitely audible if I play a note and turn the knobs at the same time. Fixable I guess. D string is very very quiet compared to the other strings and I've done my best to raise the pups or lower the action. Still quiet. Won't use my Tech21 if I go with the precision because it roars like a beast without any silly effects.

MIM: Neck is a bit uncomfortable after the 12th fret because of a possible truss rod problem that I tried to fix but to no avail. I like have a good bow in the neck but this seems to be overbowed. neck pup lower than bridge pup because I like the combined sound of both pups on full but with the bridge pup being the dominant sound over the neck. Will be using Tech 21 Programmable BDDI to boost the s****y stock pups if I take the jazz because it needs that extra oomph.

MIA: $1000 bass. And I will be transiting to the arena. Don't wanna risk getting a $1000 bass stolen from me...:p...paranoia, but whatever.

MIM: cheaper and less quality because I abused the thing from overplaying it (true roadworn people!!!) but it means a lot to me in the sense that it was the first bass I bought with my own money and no help from parental aid. MAde me feel a sense of "good work, Lewis! You earned this bass."

MIM definitely does not have a problem with the D string being quiet. In fact, it's just as loud and booming as the E string...ahhhh

if you are worried about the theft....then just go with the Jazz.....it is only a 20 min set.....they both work fine. Just be thankful you have the opportunity to play and DON'T worry about. Have a Great Christmas.

Have you tried new/other strings to cure the "low D" problem?

Take them both, so you have a backup. You never know when a guitard will trip over your cable and break your output jack...

20 minute set; bring one bass and make that the Jazz. End of story.

Or, you can bring 30 SX basses and 3 fearfuls and deal with that debacle.

Why not just take the one that you want to play?

For 20 minutes of stage time I wouldn't show up anyhow.

Exactly my plan. I might just need to clean the pots since I did such a crappy soldering job a few months ago
