It's a pretty sweet bass line (and sound!) Maybe take this chance to work on your ear and sound it out on your own!

I've been working on this one, which is a nice, nasty, funky bass line from the soundtrack of Black Dynamite

    I'd love those tabs too!
too bad they aren't on any tabs website

So many people reply in this way on this part of the forum...
I know you mean well, and I know the only way to get better is with practice, but people asking for help here obviously aren't able to tell notes by ear, that much should be easy to guess.

I don't mean to whine to you and your comment might even be helpful to motivate that guy, but some people really think that anyone can do it (tell notes by ear I mean), it's pretty annoying when you've been trying and trying but just can't seem to tell anything apart, and I was even accused of wanting other people to do my job for me, as if I could transcribe the song I asked but just didn't feel like it. That kind of pissed me off.

Sorry for the rant, I know it wasn't called for in your case, I just wanted to make a point that's been bugging me for a while

to be perfectly honest, i fair much better when somebody just gives me the chords or the sheet music, my ear playing only seems to go well if it's a particular mode or scale i'm pretty familiar with

Great movie. I've transcribed off youtube before but for this one I'll pick up the soundtrack. Cool old school bass playing. Give me some time. I should be able to crank this out eventually.
Maybe we should make it a competion to stir up interest.
First guy to post the transcription wins a free set of strings or something.
I suppose the OP should be responsible for procuring the prize.
You up for shelling out for strings, naruki?

Don't feel down on yourself! It is a skill you CAN improve, it WILL get easier with time. Practice ear training a little every day, get some tips from your teacher, maybe take an ear training class at your local conservatory. You can do it! :)

Sorry I have nothing to offer you for "His Name Was King" but I'm TAB illiterate, LOL. ;)

I've got it all in my head now I just have to write it out. Had to take a cover band gig for this Friday and have been side tracked practicing for that.
So give me a few more days to post this transcription, unless anyone else wants to first.
Did you know that fill in "Play That Funky Music White Boy" when the lyric goes "Lay down the Boogie" starts on a C?
Kinda weird but when you listen to the recording there it is.

Here it is. I think it's pretty close. I'll get the tabs up later.

Thanks. The transcription is pretty good but I wouldn't say it's perfect.
Bars 8 & 19 work but might not be accurate to the recording.
I also gave a little creative license on parts like the open D at the end of bar 10. It helps to make a position shift and is very Jamersonesque.
I enjoyed working on it and if people benefit from it, all the better.
Now where are my free strings Naruki? ;)
