Hofner 1st run 500/1 Contemporary - in Excellent condition.

This bass has all original, factory German hardware and electronics. The body and neck were made in China to Hofner's specs. The body has a solid sustain block, that increases sustain and reduces feedback. Raised neck joint to allow use of Beatle strap. There are no neck binding or fret markers. Hard case.
    $999.00 plus $40.00 shipping.

Here's a bump for a very special bass.

For anyone interested here's the story behind it, in late 2005 Hofner decided they were going to offer a lower price point 500/1 bass to compete against all of the other violin bass clones that were in the market. In order to do so, they would have to make this new bass at their Chinese factory.

9 Chinese/German made prototype 500/1 Contemporary basses were made. The body and neck being Chinese and all hardware and electronics were German made. These were the parts used on the real 500/1 reissue German made basses. The basses were sent out worldwide to Hofner's distributors for evaluation and comment. All of the distributors loved the bass, but felt it was much to close in appearance and performance to the German made counterpart which would impact the sales of those basses.

Hofner decided to make a number of changes to the bass when they started production of the HCT500/1 in late 2006. The 9 prototype basses were all sold to North Coast Music who in turn sold them all in one day.

How can you tell that this is one of the prototype basses? Easy, none of the 9 basses had a serial number on the label that's mounted inside the body just under the control panel. Hofner doesn't put serial numbers on their prototype instruments. They also had no binding on the neck and the German parts are much better quality than the Chinese made production parts.

Here's a chance to get a unique Hofner HCT500/1 prototype bass.

PS - I have no affiliation with the seller.
