In my daily life, I come across hipsters working in a large city. Some on the street... some at work... some behind the counter at the coffee shoppe. However, these people really rub me the wrong way.

They aren't the first sub-culture group to ever embrace "obscure music", but I think they are the first to embrace obscure music on the simple criteria that is *is* obscure music. It's like they feel a level of superiority for being into bands, "you've never heard of".

They seriously lack any sense of humor. Some have a dry-wit, but usually it's done pretty condescending when they use it. Hippies can be funny. Gangsta thugs can crack jokes. Rednecks can be a real hoot. Hipsters. No sense of humor whatsoever.

They stand in front of you at the bar to order "another PBR", while talking with their hipster friends about how Arcade Fire has sold out and gone mainstream.

Anyhow, hipsters, IMO are an insufferable, arrogant bunch of pricks. Help me someone find the good in them.

This thread is so mainstream. I was bitching about hipsters way before it was cool.

That doesn't look organic and locally-sourced to me.

I enjoy the tone of the OP's comments and really wonder at the generalized lack of humor and irony deficiency in this set. Mama used to say God sends us those people to teach us patience and reiterate who WE are!

I try to meet people at a common level and establish fellowship- if they don't get my intentions, they don't get the benefit of my company!

As a group, they tend to support live music, so I'd say that's a positive.

This. Beatniks were to the late '50's - early '60's what the Hipsters are today.

Just another generation who think they know it all before age 21.

Same attitude, different century. It's all good. (he says while thumping his bongos and adjusting his French beret)

It used to be that if you met someone with a tattoo on their neck, it was in someplace very dangerous, and you were likely going to be killed.

Now, if you meet someone with a neck tattoo, they will probably want to read you the poem they wrote about their vegan bicycle.
