I picked up this 60's made in japan bass and am mystified as to what it is. I can't find another bass with a headstock like it.
    Any ideas?

Here's a link to pics, couldn't figure how to upload them here.

Hey there im no bass expert at all but was just having a quick look for 60's vintage bass's and found this

    http://guitarz.blogspot.co.uk/2010/02/vintage-japanese-teicso-bass.html

although its not the same it certainly has similarities but may help set you on the right path to finding out what it is, as at least you have something to compare or reference its look to. i also came across an EKO bass from 65 that had some of the same features but it looks as tho they clearly mark their basses with a name to identify what it is, i used to own a VOX guitar that was very much in the same style as this too so maybe (again i don't know much) that may also be a starting point
hope that helps my friend good luck!

It looks like one of the million '60s basses made by Matsumoku. Probably a Teisco.

I've seen that same model asked about here before and I'll be darned I can't remember what it was. If I was a betting man, I'd wager that if SCMD (?) sees this thread, he'll know what it is.

I've checked through the all the Teiscos I could find and no matches. The only thing I know for sure is that it's made in Japan. Haven't found any matching headstocks, also looking for a pickup match for clues.

    thanks again for ideas

Kingston, Kimberly and others also have the same tuners. Most likely a Teisco of some name... but which?

Looks a heck of a lot like a Teisco Spectrum, but they had 2x2 tuners not 4-in-line. Plus the body was a bit more pointy.
