If you only had ONE option to choose from for a solid body bass or guitar body, which would it be?

    1) Tummy Cut
    2) Forearm Cut

Tummy Cut or forearm cut.... The cut outs in the body of most fender style basses.

    Forearm cut.
I played a Rick for one summer, and the binding and lack of a forearm cut left a sore, red mark on my arm that lasted for weeks. Really hurt!

    Why not?

I wouldn't buy a bass without both. Too uncomfortable.

I don't have "only one option", so I don't get the point here. If a person or company building me a bass said "A or B?", I'd say "see ya".

I thumb anchor and keep my elbow up and away from the instrument to maintain a neutral wrist position. A forearm cut is completely worthless to me.

Why only one option? Trying to cut down on build time?

Is there a reason why you can't have both? Just curious.

Is it impossible for people to think in the theoretical if only for a minute?

Well, the reason for only having one or the other might affect which one to choose.

If it's ergonomics I'd personally want the forearm cut (though I do wamt both) but maybe some other consideration would make me sacrifice that and go for the tummy cut instead?

How's that for "thinking in the theoretical"? ;)

Technically, looking for a reason behind the question is not thinking in the theoretical. It's a simple if/then question that needn't be analyzed in order to be answered. In other words, all else being equal, if you could only have one, then which would it be?

Your "theoretical" may not be the same as mine and what conclusion can you then possibly draw from the answers if we all have different interpretations of the question?

If you could only choose between an ice pack or a head of broccoli, which would you choose?

Silly question? Not necessarily, it depends on the context. But it IS a silly question without the context. SNM.
