Nerf balls(soft foam) or the gel or sand filled hand exercise balls. Studies have shown the hard balls actually contribute to joint pain. Resistance is hard on the joints, really you want to work at movement later in life.

Take your vitamin C...you can take all the glucosmine/cartilage in the world but your body can't rebuild cartilage without vitamin C. They sell easy on the stomach vitamin C which is an acetate form rather than an acid form like common vitamin C. I feel your pain, literally.

    Thanks for that....

I am not getting pain, beyond the odd little twinge, quite yet, just occasional stiffness and I eat plenty of fruit for the Vit C.

I am (only) 51, and looking for something to keep my hands in order for another 20 years plus. My father had some arthritis, but managed to get rid of it with a combination of diet and hoemopathy. However, my habits are different to his so I may avoid that er... particular pleasure....

Has anybody actually used something like this that has worked for them?

I used to use them when I was playing cello more often.

Your hands feel great after a few minutes, and I felt I played more relaxed.

All the other health claims are BS in my opinion.
