i have a squier 60s vibes jazz bass one of the bass pickups doesn't make any sound at any volume but if you touch the pick up it buzzes. so is the pick up broken or the volume pot broken??

I suspect it's a little bit more than just the ground wire. It could be the pot if you're getting some noise from the pickup like that, it's hard for me to tell, you may want to take it in to get it looked at, rehgardless.

the ground wire is definitely attached to the pot.

  6. If you can hear noises when you touch the poles, then the volume pot is passing the signal just fine. The problem has something to do with the pickup wiring. Check the DC resistance of the coil. It should be finite. If not, something is open or broken.
