Is this a genuine late 70's/early 80's Fender Jazz neck?

    Hey everyone

I bought a jazz bass off ebay a couple of weeks ago. Admittedly, the advert did look somewhat dodgy, but I went through with it anyway because the price was good. The seller claimed that it was a 1978 Fender Jazz neck on a Fender Mexican body. But I'm not 100% sure if the neck is legit or not. The tuners are definitely aftermarket. The bass plays really well, but I'd like to know for certain what exactly it's made from

I've got a few pictures of the neck and headstock here:

Sorry about the low quality pictures, I'll type what's written on the neck just in case any one can't read it

    First picture - 21883
Second - (Large red/black letter) - F (In the black circle) - FRR 20 (small red writing underneath large F) - J. Morene
Third and fourth - Fender Jazz Bass. Serial Number S 865026. Made in U.S.A

Hope the helps enough to determine whether it's genuine or not. If you need any more pictures, feel free to ask. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone

The serial number dates to 1977-78 according to guitar dater. Logo looks real. Some pictures of the bass as a whole would be helpful to know for sure.

Thanks for the reply man :) This is the bass as a whole ( https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd...._=1390315860_e0c5608f1347fdf16cd0c25fa86101d2 ) but the body definitely isn't supposed to be with this neck. It was originally a 4 bolt but the 2 bottom holes have been filled in and a large one has been drilled in the centre. The guy told me it was from a Mexican J bass.

It's a 1983 Jazz neck. The S8 and S9 serial numbers continued into the early '80s, but the neck date is what determines that this is an '83 and not a '70s neck. It has a bullet truss rod, so this neck was originally a 3-bolt.

Correct. The dots also confirm it as an early 80s neck. A 78 would have perloid blocks.

Thanks so much for your help guys :) I guess I was just sceptical because of the ad and because I only paid £370 for the whole bass, not too shabby :p Cheers :)
