    Did all Fender basses manufactured in Japan have the "crafted in Japan" printed on the back of the neck near the pocket?

    Why are we speaking in past tense here? It's not like Fender Japan stopped building basses. :)

    Anyways, mine says "Made in Japan". It's built in 2012.

  6. What's the difference? Just when they were built?

    Sorry I wasn't clear. My question is more about the location of the words. Headstock or back of neck near the pocket? Or both?

    I think the "Crafted" basses were mostly from the nineties. Ish.

    In 1997, Fender transitioned to a serial number decal that included the words “Crafted in Japan” above the serial number.
    2007 was another transitional year for Japanese-made Fender instruments, with the return to the “Made in Japan” country-of-origin identifier on the serial number decal. This was a running change, and both “Made in Japan” and “Crafted in Japan” decals appear on instruments from 2007 and 2008.

    I had a '02 or '03 Sting P-bass that said "Crafted in Japan" on the bottom of the back of the neck.

    My '97 Noel Redding was CIJ and My '90 62P RI was MIJ. Both on the back of the neck near the pocket.

    Mine has "Made in Japan" on the headstock and "Fender Japan" on the 3 bolt neck plate.

    The difference comes down to which factory built said bass, much like "this was built in the Cort factory, but not that one of the same model." Here's a link that summarizes it well;

    So although my 2007 Aerodyne says "Crafted In Japan", it could have just as likely had a "Made In Japan" stamp.

    Also, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the model stamp on the base of the neck (just above the neck pocket) is mostly on the Aerodynes.

    Mine is a PB70 Precision and has the stamp by the pocket.

    And I'm not seeing anything stamped on the back of the head on any of the basses currently on the Fender Japan site.
