Jazz neck pup vs. early P-Bass single coil

    Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I couldn't find any info on it.

    Recently I got thinking about how the tone of an early (1951-56) P bass would compare to a Jazz with the neck pickup soloed, given the similarity in pickup design and position. I've never had the chance to play a P equipped with anything other than the contemporary split-coil.

    Anyone's input would be appreciated.
