Just got my US-built Lakland 55-14,ser.#0005, (one of the first ones out of the oven!)in candy apple red/rosewood 'board....Man, it sings AND is set up perfectly!...I'm anxious to A/B it with my Skyline 55-01 w/the LH-3 preamp upgrade which I've been gigging with for 6 months......

What is the difference between 55-94 and 55-14, when this model was introduced?

No you are not, I would also asked to get a two week try out myself to make sure it is a bass that deserve being called so and after that I would return it to him if I were you... Just to make sure...

They are the same bass, but apparently the difference is the 55-14 is unphotographable.

    A 55-14 is a 55-94 with a 34" scale.

Can't wait to see pics! The 55-14 is basically a bare bones US bass, but has the same specs that a 55-94 has. They are only offering it in a few colors, but has the same 35" scale as all Lakland 5'ers.

The 55-14 was announced a few months ago. It's a 55-94 (including 35" scale), but with far fewer finish options (Car, 'burst and natural) and no real customization available--thus the price is lower. There's a 44-14, too.

Also alder body instead of ash, IIRC.

you already had the 55-94 available as a classic with an alder body, a standard with no top and a deluxe with a top. how is this one different than a standard?

Yes it seems redundant, but it's just how it is. It obviously has something to do with streamlining production in order to keep costs down.

    BTW...

we want pics, a soundclip, a video, and a full review. You know, the standard routine.

    No, it's 35" scale.

The Classic 55-94 is alder while the Standard and Deluxe 55-94 are ash; The 55-14 is alder if the color is tobacco sunburst or CAR and ash if it's a natural finish.
