Yesterday I went to the Latin Free Jazz Festival, and met an 18 year old bassist and prodigy, Sameer Khan. He was playing with famous saxophonist Ivo Perelman and blew away the audience with his fast fingers, interesting double stops, and aggressive slapping pattern. All while keeping a slight bossa nova groove, just to fulfill the Latin category in the festival name. I have never seen someone so young do this well in a free jazz environment. Kudos, and I cannot wait to hear more.

Well, Kenneth, that does sound amazing. I too cannot wait to hear more. Perhaps more new users will chime in on how great this kid is. With the slapping, and the double stopping and the latin-ing. I'll be back, just have to bait my breath.

Very interesting. He didn't make it on to the published program. I hope some clips make it to YouTube.

Ivo Perlman is amazing. Since he makes SO many CDs, hopefully one with this kid will surface!
