    Hi all

I have a Ashdown Mag 300 and the light on the VU meter has gone.

Anybody know how I get a new one and how to replace it?

    Thanks
    Martin

Contact Ashdown or go through the store on their website.

Another option would be to contact your local Ashdown dealer and they should be able to get one in

If you aren't familiar with the hazards of electricity and don't have soldering skills I suggest you take it to a tech.

I'll give ashdown a bell tomorrow to see if they can send out a replacement, and I'll get a tech to do it for me. Can't see it costing me too much to repair!

    Thanks

The bulb is just soldered behind the VU meter so all you will have to do is desolder the current bulb and solder in the new one.

If you aren't comfortable though, getting a tech to do it will cost next to nothing

EDIT: Just a heads up, what with NAMM coming up, they may be a little slow replying to emails but they are normally pretty good at getting back to people :)

Think I'd rather get a tech to do it, will probably get the amp serviced at the same time anyway.

What's NAMM? I phoned Ashdown this morning and somebody is going to call me back. I've heard their customer service is very good.

    Thanks

National Association of Music Merchants exposition in Los Angeles. All the manufacturers display their new gear and wares. It's huge.

Ashdown have sent a replacement bulb out to for free, so should receive it early next week.

Had a quote with a tech to replace, apparently it's quite tricky but he's done one before and will clean to pots and clean the pre-amp etc for £46.

Does that price sound about right?

    Thanks

IMO ... no... that's very, very high. But it does depend on your local market and what not. I can't imagine paying $75 (USD) for what you listed out.

I thought it was expensive too! Think I'll shop around.

    Thanks

Why don't you buy an inexpensive soldering iron and a can of pot cleaner/lubricant, and do it yourself? If you post a photo of the lamp, people here would advise you on the best technique to perform the repair.

Some are screw in, maybe only on UK made lines, but sometimes it just vibrated loose.

From Liverpool actually but the day after our wedding my wife and I travelled to London to work. The site was not ready for me so I was sent to Penarth. Ended up buying a house in Caerphilly and in '73 headed over here.

You do not have to take your amp to a tech to have the bulb behind your vu meter changed. unscrew the screws from the top of the amp and slide the amp out and you will see that right behind the vu meter you will see the blown bulb/fuse, just take it out and place the new one in.

Out of almost 16 years of owning and playing out of Ashdown amps I've only had to replace one vu meter bulb.
