Hi, I'm new to the site. Anyway, I've been looking to get rid of my current four-string and pick up another. So, of course, I've been looking to see if I could find any nice, used basses online. I stumbled across a few on Ebay, and was wondering if any of the more experienced bass players could let me know if any of the basses I'm interested in are "good deals". Thanks a million!

    Of the two Ricks:

The '83 should sell pretty low, as there's not a lot left that's original, it will take a few hundred to bring back to spec if that's what you're interested in, or just play it as is.
The bridge is an improvement in set up terms compared to the original, and since it's already modded, you may as well leave it.
The pickups possibly don't give the bass the Rick tone, but may sound decent.
It depends on what you like.
Personally, I'd change the pickups (also it would need a new partial pickguard) to RIC stock units ($225.00 http://boutique.rickenbacker.com/Pickups_c_12.html).

The '92 may go for a decent price and should be a good player. Nice used bass.

Sorry, I have no experience with Vox instruments however.

    The '83 is a mess. I wouldn't touch it with a 10ft. pole.

The '92 is ok, but no great shakes at that price. Note that the seller states that the bass is "near mint". It's far from it. When will these guys ever learn...

The 2 Vox basses look fun and vintage and all, but like most 60's Italian imports, the sound leaves a lot to be desired.

I wouldn't consider any of those basses. If $950 is in your range, save up a couple more bucks and look for a newer Ric (2003 and younger).

Agreed. Maybe not even with a 20'.
Note the famous self-destructing tailpiece, lifting so high the plating is already cracked at the bend. :rollno:
