Maple Gloss and Satin finish tone differences

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by TjMetalhead, Feb 20, 2014.

  1. I was wondering if there are any tone differences between playing a bass with a satin finish maple fret board and a glossy finish maple fret board.

I'm quite sure someone out there will claim they can hear a difference.
    To me, absolutely not.

I hear a difference, but it may be because of my use of authentic clay dots rather than modern reproductions.
  8. I was just wondering, obviously there will be a different feel, no need for condescension here, thanks!

No difference on the fretboard but I do find a slight difference in the tone on gloss maple necks and satin maple necks. The tone difference is small but noticeable to me the player. I find the gloss necks don't allow my hand to slide as freely and therefore I have a tendency to not fret as accurately on a gloss neck especially on faster songs. Other than that there is no real difference.
