Here's a good one; list the bass lines you learned that really challenged and improved your skills and abilities. These can include any genre of music. Here are 10 of mine listed as song, artist and bassist

    1) a remark you made- weather report (Jaco)
    2) Xanadu- rush (Geddy Lee)
    3) parallel universe- chili peppers (Flea)
    4) the real me- the who (John Entwistle)
    5) to tame a land- iron maiden (Steve Harris)
    6) bassically/nib- sabbath (Geezer Butler)
    7) what's going on- Marvin Gaye (Jamerson)
    8) I was made to love her- Stevie Wonder (Jamerson)
    9) crossroads- cream (Jack Bruce)
    10) the lemon song- Zeppelin (John Paul Jones)
What are some of your proudest bass accomplishments?

I really don't find anything very challenging anymore but over the 36 years of playing here are some of the songs which I feel challenged me and improved my playing.

"The Real Me" - The Who
    "My Generation" - The Who
    "Let It Rain" Eric Clapton
"Carry On Wayward Son" - Kansas
    "YYZ" - Rush
"Good Times Bad Times" - Led Zeppelin

I prefer to think of it in terms of shelves or plateaus that I have reached.

The " shelves" in my career so far have been:

    Soul to squeeze- chilli peppers
Won't get fooled again- the who
    That smell- skynard

Many more to come I'm sure.

Molly's lips by Nirvana (technically a cover of The Vaselines but i never heard the original)

It's two notes over and over (actually might be an open string before switching to each now that i think of it). It's hard because you tend to fall asleep before the end of the song.

    Fun songs:
    Master Blaster - Stevie Wonder
    I Want You Back - Jackson 5 (?)
    Higher Ground - RHCP (Flea)
    So What - Miles Davis

    Biggest mountains:
Sight reading bass in Jazz bands and Orchestra for Musicals
Singing & playing walking basslines on DB at the same time.

Colorado Bulldog, and addicted to that RUSH - Mr Big
    Cupid's dead - Extreme

I'm a huge Geddy freak so I love to learn everything he does. As soon as a RUSH record comes out, I'm in the SHED with the IEM's in to learn all in it's entirety.

A very proud moment when I could finally play along to the entire Side A of 2112. And keeping up with Mel Schacher on Grand Funk Railroad-Got This Thing On The Move.

The 4 second bass solo in La Villa Strangiato by Rush. Haha. Really made me appreciate speed, especially to a hard to follow drum groove.

I've never heard of some of these songs, can't wait to go try them out.
Meanwhile, Bite it Like a Bulldog by Lordi has some ho/po work going on and it took me a while. Ultimately fun to play once you get that one tough riff down. It's even harder on guitar!

Took me a while to nail Dead Kennedys "Ill In The Head'.

Very satisfying once I did, though.
