Watching Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels this evening for the first time. Not all of them are bass guitar, but there are some fierce lines in this movie. Anyone have a favorite bass groove from another film?

Not a movie, but I love the theme music for the TV show "Frasier." It's a short, really catchy upright part.

I was gonna say that. And the thing is...now something almost exactly like it is in every heist movie. Or sometimes just crime movies. I'm not sure if this movie started it but i have only noticed that since oceans eleven like 12 or 13 years ago.

Well I know what it is. They try to make these crime dramas seem sophisticated, and that you're smart for understanding the plot. Smart people like upright bass.

That's my bs theory anyway! :D

  13. I want to live. Red Mitchell on Bass

"By March 1959, Billboard noted that the popularity of the film and of Mandel's and Mulligan's albums "prompted a rush of jazz film scores", and cited the signing of Duke Ellington to do the score for that year's Anatomy of a Murder, the release of The Five Pennies (a biopic about the jazz band leader Red Nichols), and a 1960 documentary Jazz on a Summer's Day,"

Take your pick of "blaxploitation" films. My pick at the moment would be "Easin' In" by Edwin Starr (from Hell Up In Harlem). :)

  15. Not a movie, and don't make fun of me for it, but the reboot of Doctor Who has had a few bass oriented background songs throughout the years.

I seem to remember some cool bass lines in David Lynch's Lost Highway. The whole soundtrack is pretty good with bass heavy songs, most worth listening to… something for every taste, as well.
Mr. Lynch rules my talk bass brethren.
