All I know is they were the guitars used by Devo 2.0, a Disney project featuring Devo music sung by kids from a few years back. And the bottom horn looks strangely strange. Wouldn't expect miracles but they look solid enough.

They were featured in one of the Austin Powers movies.

    I gig one fairly regularly..
It sounds extra thick, plays pretty well and is constructed pretty damn well, I'd say for the price you can get them at they punch above their weight.. Ill also say its got me gigs in the past, people love it!

But it fits our band (plastic spaceman) image, may not suit everyone!

    Thanks for the input.

I must admit the bottom horn is a bit peculiar, as is the headstock, but there's something I really like about them.

Mr. Mow, do you think the odd body shape has anything to do with overall balance, to, let's say, keep down any neck dive?
Also, have you heard or tried out their 12 string version? I find it an incredibly interesting idea.

Nah, balances fine for me, it feels tiny as its a short scale, I've got a feeling the 12 string may be a completely different bass though, send Matt at Musicvox an email or message through Facebook, he'll send you pics of what's in stock.

BassPlayer Magazine August 2013 issue (Will Lee on the cover) has a review of the Musicvox Space Cadet 12, 12-string bass.

    34", 2 1/8" nut, 16" FB radius, 11 lbs.

I've been looking for the July issue of BP Mag (with Geezer). Haven't read that magazine in years. Unfortunately I'm not finding it here in Greece. I even wrote to the BP Mag offices to see who their distributors are here in Athens, but no luck.

ANyway, thanks for the info and input. Looking forward to hearing and finding out more!

Super cool. There was a time a while back where I was GASing for a 6 string guitar by this company. Unique to say the least!

It is reviewed on Bass Player this month. Somewhat puzzled reviewer. I gather you love this instrument, but also it makes you rethink what to do with it. And three strings are harder to pluck. All things considered, the review depicts it as a very special piece of gear at a reasonable price.

BTW, they also make the "Spaceranger" in 4 strings. I've been intrigued by these for awhile. There's four of them on the bay right now.

Careful, that bass might steal your girlfriend.

Also, Alan Woody used to play one of their 12 string basses. They were produced in the same Korean factory that produced the Dean Rhapsody 12, the Galveston 12 string bass and the other rash of unusual imports from the early 2000s.

  18. I think the [redacted] lower cutaway may have something to do with adding mass to the body while keeping the rest of it reasonably the same (normal?) making it more appealing. It's just like stuffing a sock.

If you buy one of these to play in your band it might open up new advertising endorsement deals from certain pharmaceutical manufactures.

I emailed Matt at Musicvox. Very nice guy. Replied to me immediately, answered all my questions promptly and thoroughly. Even sent me some vid clips with people playing the various models. I'm intrigued. Let me know if anyone wants to see the vid clips.

    Jbossolo, check your inbox. :)
