Sorry for posting such a grim bit of news, but I just have to get this out.

My 84 year old Dad got attacked last night. He came out of his regular Friday jazz evening and walked back to his car – one of a group of four guys hit him over the head with something and he went down. They took his car keys and stole his car (now recovered). When he fell, he broke a hip and is now just about to have an emergency operation to reset and fix it.

I don’t know what else to say. What sort of person would hit an 84 year old guy over the head to steal his car keys?

That's terrible mate. What a bunch of &$^%*.

I hope the operation is a success and that all goes well for him in his recovery. That really is terrible.

    Ugh, scum.

Hope the operation goes well and he recovers quickly.

Hopefully something slow and painful happens to his attackers too.

There seems to be an overwhelming number of scumbags in the world today, wherever you happen to live. I sincerely hope they get caught and go down for GBH.

I'm 58 myself and, even though that's a long way from my 80's, I am aware that these days with what little hair I've still got and my beard turning white, I'm starting to look a bit crumbly and just the sort of vulnerable target that these cowardly wretches prey on.

I hope your dad gets better soon

Awful to hear, Bill, I'm so sorry. I hope he comes out ok and they get the scumbags who would do such a thing.

That's awful, I hope he will recover quickly.

There seems to be an alarming trend of the elderly being attacked going on for the last decade or so, hopefully someone can put a stop to it.

    Regards
    Sam

get used to it bill....it's just the way things are these days.....here we have more convicted murderers free on our streets than they do in prison.....of those sent away for life only 2% stay there that long......self defense is all but illegal except in the narrowest of circumstances....if they catch those guys your dad even gets to fund their lawyers with his tax money....

Bill, that's terrible. You often make references to the old boy in many of your posts, and I remember the time and effort you put in to his surprise birthday party...am I right in thinking you have a few YT vids from the event?

I'm guessing you've got plod involved.

Sadly, you often read about older folk suffering the mental and emotional strain after an attack leaving them scared and housebound...but if he's anything like you, I'm sure he's a tough old sod and this won't leave him too damaged.

I'm sure your family will give him all the support he needs.

    Scumbags.

What a low, cowardly act. I just don't understand how anyone could do this. Some people are just oxygen thieves aren't they?

Terrible to hear that. My condolences and wishes for a speedy recovery, and severe punishment for the dirt bags who did this... :(

Oh man that is terrible. I am so sorry to hear that. That kind of stuff just breaks my heart. I hope they find those guys. People who commit crimes against children and the elderly deserve stiffer punishment IMO. I prey your dad recovers fully..

Wow, so sorry to hear about this, and prayers to his swift recovery.

I hope karma bites these scumbags equally swift.

This makes me sad, nauseated and beyond angry at the same time. I hope he recovers soon and that the culprits have a long life of suffering. If my brother and I were ever to catch a person inflicting pain on either of my parents.....

    My best to your pop.

Sorry to hear that Bill. Those attackers are cowardly. Pure cowards. There should be additional penalties for targeting the elderly.
