So as promised here are pics of my new bass

It is a MIM Fender Classic 60s Jazz bass in 3 Tone Sunburst

with Vintage truss rod adjustment, poly finish, and Fender Deluxe GigBag.

I bought from MusiciansFriend with combination of deals for a very reasonable price of around $430

It is also my first bass, I start to learn next week after New Year can't wait

The serial # begins with MX1217----

When is this bass made in?
**** Update: the bass is made in Sept 14th 2012

Also, my bass did not come with any accessory kit, or strap, I bought it new, but it did not come with the aforementioned accessory kit is kind of mystifying. Do J Basses have an accessory kit when buy brand new?

Please let me know, enjoy the pics.

  2. The number would indicate its a 2012 Mexican Fender. If it came off the wall at the shop and not from a box in the back I can understand why it had no extras. I am not sure what, if anything new MIM Fenders come with anyways.

    Nice Jazzer though!

Wow! That's a great first bass. Have fun!
  4. Should at least have a wrench.

    Thanks and good to know

But the jazz bass does not have allen wrench for adjusting the truss rod.

The truss rod adjustment is a big Philips screw located by neck and body connection area.
  8. Also, that brown "tortoise-shell" pickguard is not factory original. I believe that is a used bass. Either way, congratulations!
  9. It's a classic '60s. They come with a tort guard

How can one tell not original? Reason I ask is I have a 2010 Am Std J with exact same finish and pick guard.

OP - truss adjustment on MIM is on the headstock I think?

I don't see the adjustment on the headstock

Only a Philips screw adjustment by the neck and body joint area

    I see

    Hopefully the neck stays straight

The finish is poly, so should be more weather resistant

Ya I wouldn't worry, if it needs tweaked just will take a bit more time to do. I'd prefer vintage over the standard MIM headstock adjustment but that's just my own personal preference because it doesn't catch boogers... :D

Dude I have a 2011 mim Sunburst jazz with Lollar pickups and D'Addario Chromed and I got it proffesionally set up.

I will never get rid of this bass or replace it. Its the most amazing sounding and playing bass I've ever played.

Its not my first but its definitely my best and it will always be my main bass

Awesome first bass! I hope you keep it forever.
  19. So is this a special vintage RI MIM? I never knew any of them to have the classic neck adjustment.

    I really don't know.

I bought it new from MusiciansFriend

It is just MIM Fender Classic 60s Jazz Bass in 3 Tone Sunburst

According to the tag inside the guitar, it was manufactured on Sept 14th 2012
