Lookee here what Santa brung me...

It's the 2014 Gibson SG Special in Chocolate Satin. 150th anniversary inlay & such. It's my first shortscale & so far am very pleased with is. The playability is amazing. And I am a fan of Gibson basses...I have three.

I had briefly discussed on an earlier thread that I was waiting on this, but have been unable to post until now due to the holidays, in-laws, kids, snowstorms, life in general.

I couldn't believe that the wife greenlighted this purchase & the price point on these things are amazing.

This was also my first instrument purchase from Sweetwater, who also get high marks. They rescued me from a Sam Ash debacle.

Pics below, and please forgive me for taking the easy way out with the Sweetwater gallery pix. They are actually shots of my exact bass that they forwarded me while I was waiting on it to be delivered.
And I also threw in a pic of it with it's Gibby cousins that also live in my house.

    Congrats! Great bass!
I have the 2013 lefty model and love it, it has become one of my favorite basses!
I see they changed the case fur color for 2014. :D

Thanks guys. I've always been a sucker for the SG/EB shape. And yeah, now I have two Gibson cases with pink fur, and one with white.

The walnut/chocolate satin or whatever they call it is unique. No gloss finish or wood filler, sprayed in Nitro. All rough hewn and raw. It's very different than any of my other basses, but I like it.

Awesome! I have a similar bass, with the fireburst finish. You are a gentleman of fine taste :)

Thanks klejst, I dig it too. Nice departure from all the variations on Sunburst that I already own...

I'd like to A/B this bass with an EB0 with a real mudbucker like yours.

I miss mine. Shortscale labella Jamerson's were great on it.

Sweet. I've just picked up my first gibson bass (studio t bird V) and am really impressed with the quality and interested in more gibson basses. I checked out the SG on youtube and it sounds great. Congrats!

Yeah, Gibson basses get a bad rap. And I will say that my T-Bird that I got direct from the Gibson factory in '01 was a train wreck (since fixed), but my last two Gibbys have been flawless.

Just picked up a red one myself. New HipShot bridge on its way as well, a must for me. This one upgrade makes a HUGE difference in the tone of the bass. I did this upgrade on a friends 2010 SG and was blown away at the difference. Since then I've been waiting to pickup one of these short scale monsters. I love the non-laquer finish on this bass.

I've been considering one of those. You think it's worth it? I hear really good things about those supertones.
