Picked this up yesterday. It looks nice, needs a setup, not a huge fan of the inlays but it's a cool 7 string, cool body and headstock. The problem: it's only working in passive mode, I changed the battery, no luck, looks like I am going to have to toss in another preamp. Going off of the pictures of the knob layout, what would you recommend? I like a warmer sound with some growl, not too modern and hifi sounding. This bass actually sounds surprisingly good in passive mode but I only have volume control and pickup selection. Thanks for the assistance fellow audiophiles.

I don't see a photo of the control layout. Am I missing something?

    *EDIT* Sorry, I do now.

    JD,
I recommend you visit www.bestbassgear.com . Real helpful people that carry a ton of preamps to choose from. Nice looking bass.

I was thinking about this at lunch- wouldn't it be awesome if that were an unlined fretless with that inlay?

And did you check to make sure all the solders are good in the preamp? Maybe something came loose from the circuit board?

Bartolini = warm not too modern IMHO and they offer 5 knob with mid frequency switch preamp.

What kind of budget do you have to work with?

That's one of those Antoniotsai basses, right?

I can work around a few hundred for the preamp, I don't know how much the install would be, my solder skills are limited and I don't have the bench I used too ( had to move due to breakup). I know I want a three band, I do like that it has the active passive switch currently.

Can't help with the pre, but I'd like to say that's an awesome inlay design.

Thank you, I'm surprised at the positive feedback for the inlay. I am debating about just a pedal pre; tone hammer or sansamp style

Quite the beast you have there. Congrats!

P.S. My I-Phone 4's camera is one of the best I have ever used. Is you phone an earlier version?

It's a regular iPhone 4, I don't know if it makes a difference but I had to run my pictures through an app because they were too large to put in. It is a beast, I haven't played a bass with an unwound string before so it's strange.

Wicked looking bass. Audere and others make pre wired pre amps. That might save you some hassle. I just dont know how well they will work for your bass.

    That's what I thought also.

It's really cool but the headstock looks like a giant bottle opener.
