After a whole year of playing I think I've worked out what I need from a bass - everything, and I want it in one package.

So here she is, arrived 30 minutes ago. This is the bass that I thought of buying last year and probably should have bought last year. But then, what's another year as the song said.

The other two, the P and J American Standards will now be sold. Maybe I'll keep my Stingray, maybe not. Depends on how my trials go this evening.

She is 250 grams heavier that the standard, that's the extra pickup and the battery I guess. As far as I can tell, it sounds identical to the std in passive mode and turns into a real growler when the bridge pup is selected.

Wish me luck and NO MORE GAS.

Very nice! Those are terrific basses. Very versatile with a great tone. Weight has more to do with wood(I had one of these basses earlier this year and it weighed at just over 8 lbs).

Not in this case. The extra 250g is accounted for entirely by the extra bits made from metal.

Does anyone know the spec of the split-coil pickup on this bass? Fender just call it the deluxe precision pickup.

My first impressions are: the P-Pickup sounds like pure syrup and the tonal range is awesome. This really is several basses in one.

    Very nice.

I bought a new Am Dlx P with the ash body, clear finish, and maple neck a while ago, and I really love it.

I put flats on it soon after buying it.

It did not eliminate all gas though, because I was so impressed with the P, I could not resist ordering it's twin in the Jazz configuration.

Even though the J cost a hundred more, I prefer the P.

They are the best basses I have ever played.

One other thing - I think that this is the first stringed instrument that I have ever owned that I will NOT be taking a screwdriver to for any reason.

On 7th of May this year, I woke up with a terrible hangover and swore that I would never drink again (after 30 years). I have not had a drink for that day to this. Easiest thing I ever did.

Perhaps the awesome tone is actually coming from that protective plastic covering the pole pieces. :p

    Congrats. Very nice photos.

My P Std sold on EBay on Friday night, the Jazz and my Ray sold today. OMG - I have just one (ok versatile) bass. I feel all naked and exposed.
