My kids' elementary school has a field day each June where everyone does all kinds of activities outside. I go to the PTA meetings and I helped arrange another short music show for something this past winter and everyone loved it, so they asked me to put something together for Field Day. The suggestion was 30-45 minutes worth of music. The kids are kindergarten thru 4th grade. I'm trying to figure out what to play. I want it to be good music and not insipid pop music, but we can't be playing YYZ or Jaco, either. I'd like it to be fun and engaging, and hopefully I can also make it funny and have a good amount of audience participation. One thing the principal does NOT want is dancing. She said that the kids get nuts and the big kids end up squashing the smaller kids. So far I'm thinking Bruno Mars - You Can Count on Me (my kids like it...), The Eels - Now You're Really Living, something by Michael Franti...that sort of lighthearted stuff. Also stuff about summer since it's the end of the school year. I also want to put together some schtick to make it funny and entertaining. Like musical slapstick. Anyway...if anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them. Thank you!
