Need String advice

    So after many years with my old Rogue my wife has bought me a new bass (that i cant have till X-mas) and a buddy of mine (guitarist) says i should buy coated strings but i know nothing about them any chance i can get input on what a good string is for rock and punk playing

    They're meant to last longer and reduce fingernoise. Lots of people like them, lots don't. I can't stand them. What kind of rogue? The violin bass?

    No it was a LX200B my starter bass from high school that i couldnt get rid of i caught a lot of flak for it but it played well (it was finaly stolen by a roommate)

    Dean edge 09 mahogany bit of a step up to me and thats when my buddy (who owns a Dean Vendetta) said to change the strings to a coated when i get it

    To me, coated strings feel sticky and unpleasant to the touch, but lots of people play them exclusively so they can't be that bad.
