I can't find any threads about these "new" cabs. I just saw the press release. 47 pounds for the 212? Yowza!

    Is there a thread yet?

There was. No differences in the specs. Same drivers, etc.

Ah. I thought it said new drivers. No matter. I'll try to find the other thread.

I am posting this here to answer the couple of PM's/e-mails that were directed my way on this change.

    1. Yes, there is a model number change.

    2. The difference is not worth panicing or freakig out about (though if you want the latest, we're not going to stop you)

    3. There is a driver change, to a custom Faital cast frame, edge wound VC neo.

    4. The primary benefits are slightly extended low end and slightly more robust mechanical power handling. The drivers electromechanical parameters are close enough that they are essentially the same and can be interchanged if need be. Even a series 1 and series 2 cabinet will play well together if you choose to.

    5. Overall voicing remains very similar as well.

    6. There are some small cosmetic changes.

    7. The difference in weight is small but in most cases (depending on model) there is a decrease of from 1 to 5 lbs.

This is about as exciting as we get in the engineering group. If you want snazzy and exciting, that's marketing's job ;)

Cool. Thanks. I'll keep an eye on them at the online retailers.

Incremental improvements to an already solid and trusted cab. Nice. Any noticeable change to the crossover?

I've noticed the price is cheaper in the UK, and the 212 is 47lbs?!?

That is light and a better price!

Might have to finally get one of these...!

Not sure whether to get the 2x12 or 2 x 112.

I like the 212 for the portability factor. Love those wheels

Don't feel bad, even knowing about and working on the updates, I found out about the release from a couple of forumites myself!

Maybe it's because engineering is on a need to know basis, or marketing would have to kill me if they told me ;)

A bunch of online retailers do not have the correct price posted on the web. It is being fixed now. The NX2 do cost less than the NeoX though.

On a side note, hapa says brand manager for both Genz and Swr? Isn't Swr part of fender, and Genz part of kaman or something? Did Benz buy Swr or something?

SWR is owned by Fender FMIC since 2003ish
Genz is owned by KMC since 2003
KMC was acquired by Fender in 2007
Since the Genz office was just down the road in Scottsdale we moved the Genz team into the Fender building. In Europe Genz Benz has been sold through Fender for the past 5 years. In the US it is only sold through KMC.
